HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I have owned my printer for a while now... and am very familiar with duplex printing.  However, I have never been able to get my HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw to print double-sided.

OS: MacOS Mojave 10.14.6

Driver version: 2.0

Yes, "Two-sided" is checked in the print dialog box.  Yes, layout allows me to select either long or short edge binding.  But every time, it just prints on multiple single-sided pages... never double-sided.  I have tried from the manual feed tray 1 as well as automatic from tray 2.

(My dad has also tried from his Windows machine to no avail.)

Thanks,

Kathy

One thing to check is to ensure that you have the paper size on the printer set for a specific size and not "ANY". Set in any position the printer will not duplex because it cannot ensure that loaded media meets those requirements. You should also ensure that you set the paper type correctly IE: plain paper, again do not use the any setting as this generic setting can disable functions on the printer.

I double-checked.  Both size and type are specified (letter and plain/cardstock).

Still printing single-sided.  It doesn't even attempt to print the first side and suck it back in to do the second side.

Are you able to duplex copy? Wondering if you have a hardware issue.

I have no problem printing double sided from a PC., but recently my MAC cannot print double sided.

For your case I will check if the Duplex printing on the M477fdw is actually set to on.  I cannot find the way to go into setting from the touch screen, but I can go to the HP SMART software to see and set the duplex printing to on.  At lease for my case when I use the PC.  For the MAC I still have not figured out.  I don't even have the check box to select print double sided on MAC.

It worked before but with new FW for the Printer and the new MAC OS.  It is broken.
