I have a HP laserjet 1018. Serial:[edited]. Product no: CB419A.

Worked before on windows 8, now doesn't work on windows 10 desktop and windows 7 laptop.

Followed all the steps on HP website. No luck.

On Devices and printers I can see the printer (with name) under "unknown".

In windows device manager I can see the printer (with name) under "software solutions", with properties "working correct".

HP print and scan doctor points me to a site for a driver that doesn't work: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-002&h_lang=nl&h_cc=nl&h_product=1814093&h_client=s-a...

Any help appreciated.

Greetings,

Wim

@WimK, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Restart the print spooler and try uninstalling the drivers-

  1. Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.
  2. Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  3. Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  4. Go to services again - Start the print spooler.

Now, I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2) Select your HP Printer

3) Select Uninstall

4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’

6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”

😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab

9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10) Select Ok

11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12) Close Devices and Printers.

Try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@WimK,

Yes! you need drivers to print.

As suggested, try using the built-in drivers.

Windows contains built-in print drivers for many types of printers. These drivers support basic printer functionality for most print jobs.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Try to print.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

You are not responding to my previous post. I tried what TEJ1602 advised me to do but I got 2 errors.

1. After uninstalling the installed HP software I got:

ERROR: "Er is tijdens Setup een ongebruikelijke uitvoering opgetreden. Setup wordt afgesloten.

Translation: During setup an unusual execution has occurred. Setup is being closed.

Also, when under start, programs, selecting uninstall HP, I get the same error. I can't seem to uninstall the HP software from the cd.

2.  In Devices and printers I tried "Add printer", the printer wasn't recognized and I selected "Windows update". The driver list was not updated, there was no HP manufacturer visible.

(I'm running windows 10, so don't I need to use the generic driver?)

Besides that, I thought in windows I had to use the generic windows driver, not a HP driver.

As mentioned in my first post, before posting I tried installing the software from the cd after which:

On Devices and printers I can see the printer (with name) under "unknown".

In windows device manager I can see the printer (with name) under "software solutions", with properties "working correct".

HP print and scan doctor points me to a site for a driver that doesn't workhttp://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-002&h_lang=nl&h_cc=nl&h_product=1814093&h_client=s-a...This is a dead link.

Waiting for futher directions.

Check to make sure the connected port on Windows printer driver is Dot4_001 if it's not you can't print.

You can also make it simple by adding new printer manually and it should be fine.

Add new printer manually not let Windows search by itself, form the connected port select Dot_001 if there's one.

Then find 1018 driver (1020/1022 will do either) on HP menu list.

Hope it helps.

@WimK

Apologies for the inconvenience caused. The print driver for HP LaserJet 1018 Printer for Win 10 OS is not available in HP Support site. Hence you will have to install the printer using Windows built-in driver.

Regarding the errors you get, could be because of driver compatibility issues with Win 10 OS or due to corrupt OS files. If you have tried the steps mentioned in this document to install the printer using Windows built-in driver and it did not help, please contact our HP Support team for further assistance:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

@East2100:

There's no Dot4_001 port so I googled and found this: http://hplaserjet1010onwindows10.blogspot.com/2015/08/instructions-to-install-drivers-for-hp.html

Did as instructed, but still no such port.

@Kimar0307:

As mentioned I tried the steps mentioned in https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

but windows update gives me no manufacturers and no printers.

I don't think it's a corrupt windows 10 issue, it's a clean install. But since there's no drivers for windows 10 and East2100 mentions the need for installing Dot4_001 for windows 10, let's try to make things work in windows 7 laptop first. I'll report asap the issues I'm having there.

Wim

@East2100: maybe you can help me solve the Dot4_001 issue in the meantime for the windows 10 install?

HP Recommended

Correction: there's a port "nul: (local port)", when trying that I can proceed the instructions.

Now I have a second HP Laserjet 1018 (1 under "unknown" and 1 under "printers").

Testpage was sent, but nothing came out of the printer.

When I print a document I can see it in the printqueue and it quickly disappears but still nothing coming out of the printer.
