LaserJet Pro 254dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed a Laser jet Pro 254dw and now my PC hangs on restart for about two minutes between the windows splash screen and the little timing wheel that spins right before I get the log in screen.  I reset the PC which took hours to reload my programs etc, and it went away.  I even did a system restore point once i installed my video drivers so i could isolate the problem, but when I reinstalled the printer drivers, even the restore point was corrupted and hung for 2 minutes.  I have uninstalled the drivers and it still hangs.   I have an Office jet 8720 with wifi printing and that works fine and does not effect restarts, ONLY once i install the drivers for the 254dw.  If i do a shut down or power off manually it boots up fast, it only happens on restart.  It drives me crazy.  I Have a SSD and it used to boot up in like 20 seconds, now it take close to 4 minutes to restart.  I have also restarted in diagnostic mode and safe boot minimal and it hangs so it must be something deeeeep in windows register that HP messes with.  I like the printer but am so frustrated that I want to chuck the whole lot out my window...please help!

do it turns out it was a HP UBS From my inkjet print.  I disabled it in Device  Manager/ Disk drive, and now it boot fast.   I think HP adds some crap there that makes windows look for a drive there and times out after 2 minutes.

but now the colour printer 254dw is printing an error and then prints on the second attempt.  error happens on every attempt to print.  drive me crazy HP blows...

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:
