Lately my printer "Calibrates" every time I turn the printer on. It takes 90 seconds to 3 minutes and its annoying! In addition, this printer has a "Power Saving" feature which cannot be disabled, FORCED on consumers where it shuts down every 2 hours of non use. After following the following advice, it still has this issue:
1) unplug printer, remove toner carts, hold power button, let power drain out of printer and then plug back in, put carts back in.
2) Go to settings and disable auto calibration
3) Update to the latest firmware version
I've done all three.
It looks like HP has given up on answering these kinds of threads, so I am depending on the user community.
I'm obviously in the market for a new printer because I can't wait 3 minutes each time I print. I bought this printer because it was sold as an "Office Printer with a very quick printing time".
Does anyone know about any new HP Printers that allow you to:
1) Disable the Energy Saving feature where the printer completely shuts down? I'm okay with a sleep mode.
2) Really actually be able to disable the calibration mode?
It occurs to me that this is a stunt implemented by creative software designers to force users to throw out perfectly good working printers to get new ones. Yes, printers do go out of calibration, but I am not using this to design a rocket. Its ok if the colors are not exactly correctly aligned.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @Originaldiode, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand how concerning it can be when your laptop isn’t performing as expected, and I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. At HP, we’re committed to ensuring you get the best possible experience from your device, so let’s work together to resolve this and get your system running smoothly!
Since We don’t allow disabling these features completely on certain models, here are some alternative solutions you might consider:
Possible Fixes for Frequent Calibration
Check if Your Printer is in "Auto Calibration Mode" (Some HP LaserJets)
- Some models have an Auto Calibration setting in the service menu that can be disabled.
- If available, navigate to:
Setup > Preferences > Auto Calibration > Turn Off (or Set to Manual) - If this option is missing, HP may have locked this feature.
Use HP Smart or Web Interface to Change Settings
- Some models allow changing deeper settings through the printer’s web interface.
- Type your printer’s IP address (found in network settings) into a web browser.
- Look for Calibration Settings and set them to Manual or Extended Intervals.
Try an Older Firmware Version
- If the latest firmware didn’t fix the issue, try rolling back to an older firmware version from HP’s website.
- Some users have reported that newer firmware versions increase calibration frequency.
Workarounds for Forced Power Saving Mode
If you can’t disable power saving through settings, try:
Keep the Printer "Active" by Scheduling Print Jobs
- Print a blank page or small document every 1-2 hours using a script or scheduled task.
- This can prevent the printer from going into deep sleep.
Use a Smart Plug to Simulate Power Cycling
- Some users connect their printer to a smart plug and schedule periodic power resets to keep it online.
Set a Static IP & Ping the Printer
- If the printer is networked, setting a static IP and pinging it every hour from a computer can keep it from going into sleep mode.
I appreciate your patience, and I’m confident we can sort this out. Please follow the steps provided, and if you need any further assistance, feel free to reach out. We’re here to help!
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
