The 79 service error message came up on the control panel and continues to interrupt printing function.  How can I get rid of 79 service error?

This error can be triggered by a few different problems related to either communication or the fax portion. A couple of things to try:

-clear all saved faxes from memory

-disconnect any communication cables and see if the error occurs when no computers are connected, if the error does not occur when in stand alone then the problem is likely related to a corrupt print job, bad network cable or bad driver.

-try updating your firmware, be aware that if you are using 3rd party toner it might not work after the update, but may be the only way to fix the error.

How to get rid of 79 service error on LaserJet Pro M278-M281

the error occurs in stand alone and/or when everything is plugged in.  It makes no difference.  I am not very good at technology, so I don't know how to update the firmware.  I did get a report from the printer that the firmware is 20201021 whatever that means.

Hello,

May i know if you are using Genuine HP Toner cartridge or refilled or remanufactured one?

Also, let me know if the error 79 pops up only when the printer is connected to wireless network ?

I am not the original poster, but I have a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw like they do.

I am sorry for jumping in.  My intent is to explain my symptoms accurately for anyone who can help.

Symptoms: Bad firmware update, 79 Service Error messages, endless reboots

A working printer sitting quietly on a wired network in a home, using Apple computers and Catalina.

WiFi on the Printer is off.

A firmware update was offered to me on the printer's console display screen.

I ran the update.

After the update and the printer rebooted, I see the normal menu on the console for a second or two.

Then I get:

===============

79 Service Error

Turn Off Then On

===============

and the printer reboots.  I get the same error and reboot endlessly.

The issue occurs when the network cable is plugged in and a link is made to my switch.

The issue occurs when WiFi is enabled and a link is made to my access point.

The issue does not occur when using only a USB cable to the Mac.

I am not aware of any print jobs in any print queue.  I checked, and we barely ever use the printer.

Until we get a firmware update, it's USB or nothing for me.

@Jabzi ... hopefully you can help me too .. same issue ...

I am using original HP toner; on a Windows 10 system.

The printer is set up to run wireless.  After turning it off and on, it will not stay "ready" long enough to update any drivers.

Do I need to "forget the printer" from my system? Do I need to hard wire it to up date the drivers (if that is the issue)?

HELP!
