Hplip - Smileys at start of printout

HP LaserJet Pro M118-M119
Linux

I'm on Linux (fedora 31) with an Apple Airport Extreme (6th g, I believe), but no Airport Utilty (because Linux + Android household). I have connected the Laser Jet to the linux box with usb, and installed hp-lip. I have added the printer through the default Printer app, which it found it correctly, and recommended the driver from hp-lip, "HP LaserJet Pro M118-M119", which I selected

The test page from `hp-setup -i` printed fine, but all other sources print some funny characters, like smileys, at the start of each page. - Anyone got a clue to where to start looking?

Cheers!
