I have an HP 1606dn printer that has worked well until today.  When I try to print, it says I have a scanner 52 error.  I was not even aware this device had a scan option.  I've tried reinstalling the drivers, performing a firmware update, and rebooting & unplugging the device.  Nothing seems to work.  Now when I turn the device on all of the lights on top come on and stay on and nothing will print without throwing the error.  I've downloaded the HP troubleshooting tool and when I check for printer errors, it does not find any.  When I ask it to check for scan errors, it says all of the software has not been installed for the product.  I followed the link to the page and installed the full package of software for the printer, but the error does not change.  Help...?

That scanner error is the laser scanner that writes the image onto the drum of the toner cartridge. Would require replacement and likely the repair cost with labour is going to be close to a replacement unit.
