Greetings @beckybur

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are getting a NO STRINGS IN RO message on your printer, is that right?

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps on your own?

How is the printer connected to your computer? USB or wireless.

Request you connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable.

Visit www.hp.com/drivers and enter the printer model on the drivers page.

Download and install the firmware on the printer.  (make sure to have the printer connected via USB to the computer.)

This should resolve the issue you are facing.

Keep me posted. Good Luck.

I have a LaserJet Pro M1217/nfw MFP that has an error message " No Strings in RO".  How do I trouble shoot that.

I upgraded the software and converted  USB to wireless, changed wireless routers at a new  home and now have this message, although the printer responds well in printing, it won't copy or scan:(

@Doc27,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are getting a message saying “No Strings in RO” on the printer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Remove USB cable, if present.
  3. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  4. Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If you continue facing the issue, then follow the steps in the below article and update the printer firmware.

If the issue persists, then perform a visual test of the scanner mechanism to see if it is jammed.

1.      Remove any original documents or photos from the scanner glass.

2.      Lift the scanner lid slightly, and then press the Copy button or icon.

If the scanner light does not move or moves halfway or is not lit, the scanner mechanism is likely jammed/broken.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
