What is the pickup roller condition? This behaviour is often triggered if the printer is not feeding consistently. You can tell if you hear the pickup roller make several rotations to feed one sheet. The roller is at the back of the tray cavity. It should have finger print like ridges and be free of paper dust. Based on the age of the printer you may need to replace the roller.
