I get a "Document Feed Jam" whenever I attempt to use the automatic document feeder for any function (fax, copy, or scan). Print function seems to work fine. I can copy using the flat surface, but if I attempt to scan, even using the flat surface I get the "Document Feeder Jam" therefore making the scanning function useless.

I have cleaned the rollers and done all of the resets (hard and soft) with no resolution. There is no paper jammed anywhere in the machine.

Once the error message comes up on the screen pushing "OK" doesn't do anything and the printer is locked up. The only way to clear it is to shut the printer off and then on again.

Hi @JF16

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

When you use the feeder to make a copy, does the paper gets jammed or is it a false error message?

Refer to this document to know how to clear a paper jam in the feeder.

If you are trying to scan from your MAC, use Apple Image Capture.

HP Easy Scan is not yet compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina. We're actively working to restore complete functionality. I suggest using HP Smart app or Apple Image capture to scan from your MAC. Kindly refer to this document to know how.

Refer to this document for more info on HP Easy Scan.

If the issue persists, resetting the printer to its factory settings may help.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
