The printer turns off after inactivity for some period of time. After it turns off can not be accessed remotely. I manually turn printer on, but, printer cannot find access point. Requires that I have to unplug router/access point to reconnect printer.

How do I keep printer from turning off? Once printer turns off how can I ensure printer will reconnect to network automatically?

Hey there! @ltcjones, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand after the printer goes to sleep you have issues accessing the printer.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

Try updating the printer firmware and check if it helps. Note: Use a Windows PC to update the printer firmware.

Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here

Try the steps recommended below.

Use the control panel menus to set the amount of idle time before the printer enters sleep mode. Complete the following procedure to change the Sleep/Auto-Off After setting:

1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe until the Setup menu displays. Touch the Setup icon to open the menu.

2. Open the following menus: ● System Setup ● Energy Settings ● Sleep/Auto-Off After.

3. Select the time for the Sleep/Auto-Off After delay.

Also, refer the printer user guide to know more information about the auto-off feature on printers. Click Here

Note: Refer page 88 for more information.

Lastly, assign a static IP to the printer and check if it helps.

•                     Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•                     Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•                     Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•                     Click on the radio button which says, “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.

•                     Click on radio button which says, “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
•                     Restart the printer and then router once done.

Hope this answers your query!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Other than initial setup, I had not made changes to the printer prior to your message. I applied the firmware upgrade as suggested. I set a static IP address as suggested. During my initial setup, I had set the "Sleep/Auto-off After " to the maximum alowed settings and the "Delay ShutDown" to "When Ports are Active."

Thank you,

Jeff
