I tried to rename my printer and now the new printer name is not recognized in my Control Panel or Settings. To rename my printer, I went into Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Printers and Devices --> [Old Printer Name] (HR Color LaserJet MFP M281fdw). From there, I went into Customize Your Printer and entered a new name: "Home Printer (HR Color LaserJet MFP M281fdw)". When I clicked save, it took a considerable amount of time to process, but threw up no error messages.
Now nothing works. When I go to print a document, "Home Printer (HR Color LaserJet MFP M281fdw)" shows up as my default option and says Ready, but when I select Print, I get an error message saying "Error printing on Home Printer (HR Color LaserJet MFP M281fdw)." When I go into Control Panel or Settings to see the properties on my printer, it displays my old printer name only. When I click on the old printer name and try to go into something like Customize Your Printer, I get an error message: "Printer properties cannot be displayed. Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."
Perhaps of related note - I cannot seem to bring up my printer's homepage when I type the IP address into my web browser. I had previously set up a static IP address and had no problem printing, but could not print this morning. The only reason I could think of for the change was a recent power outage. So I went to check my printer's homepage for problems, couldn't bring up the home page, and so instead tried to see what I could see via the Control Panel. Decided to change my printer name in the meantime and now nothing works.
I've restarted both my laptop and my printer, still no change. Help?

I see that after renaming your printer, you are unable to print. To fix this issue, use the same name in the General settings and the Sharing settings. Refer to the image below.

Hi Roopa-S,
Thanks for the suggestion, but that did not really help because, as I said before, I could not bring up any means of changing the properties on the printer without getting an error message that the printer name was not recognized. I could not even access the printer properties.
Anyway, I fixed it by simply uninstalling everything on my computer, resetting the printer to defaults, and re-installing everything again. Printing fine now.
Thanks
