Color LaserJet CP2025
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is there a way to print in black only to override printer shutdown when a color toner cartridge is empty? Older HP Color LaserJet CP2025 printer. Is there a better driver for this printer when using with Windows 10 than Universal driver currently available from HP? This driver makes many of the tasks this printer is capable of very difficult.

No.

 

Printers require consumables of a minimum value for normal operation.  There are numerous reasons for this that we can review if you like.  Swap the cartridge when it gets too low (or when the printer thinks it is too low).

All of the supported driver options are available from HPs support website.

UPDs come in many flavors.  Try switching from PCL to PostScript and see if your problems go away.

You can change the settings from CP2025's front panel.

System Setup Manual -> Print Qulity -> Replace supplies -> Override out

System Setup Manual -> Print Qulity -> Color Supply Out -> Continue Black

Please note that the options provided by @east2100  are intended for troubleshooting purposes. 

 

It is not recommended to enable these settings as the default for the printer.  Color printers are designed to run with color cartridges at all times.  Even the blacks that are produced by color printers are enhanced with trace amounts of color.  If you want true black and white printing then you need to purchase a monochrome printer.
