@Sue1987,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I see from the post that you are having issues while printing on card stock from your HP OfficeJet printer. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

What type of card are you using? Have you checked the weight and capacity of the card which is supported? If you haven't checked please check the printer specifications.

Are you able to print from regular plain paper? If so, have you checked the paper settings?

Have you tried to clean the paper feed and pickup rollers?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

I'd like you to try updating the printer firmware. Sometimes, this could help.

You can directly update the printer firmware from the printer control panel or download the software from our HP support website,

Here's the link to download the printer firmware from our HP support website - https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/ojp8610/OJP8610_R1733A.exe

For more details on how to update the printer firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware Once done, restart the printer.

Let's try to print something on regular plain paper and check how it works. If you are able to print on regular paper, then this could be most likely an issue with the paper settings.

Try the steps mentioned below and check:

  • Go to Control panel – Devices and Printers.
  • Right-Click on the Officejet 8610 and select Printing Preferences.
  • Go to Paper / Quality tab change your paper type to "Cardstock" under media.
  • Also, if you are printing with Microsoft office / MS Word/ or any other program, make sure the media or paper type is also selected to the cardstock as well.

If the issue persists, then re-install the drivers and try to change the printing preferences.

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer, if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP OfficeJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL51184/bi-124093-4/OJ8610_198.exe  to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

If the issue persists even while printing on regular paper, I would suggest you follow the steps suggested in the support document for - An 'Out of Paper' Message Displays and the Printer Does Not Pick Up Paper for the HP Officejet Pro 8...

Could you please respond to this post with the details as well as with the results of the troubleshooting as this will help me in further assisting you.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
