Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Howdy!

I have an hp LaserJet 1012 USB-connected to a Windows 7 32-bit desktop. I can successfully connect to it over the network and print to it from Windows 7 64-bit using the HP Universal Printing PCL 5 driver. (https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL40842/ds-99378-9/upd-pcl5-x64-6.1.0.20062.exe)

My issue is trying to print to it over the network from Windows 10 64-bit.

From the Win 10 computer, over the network, without a username and password, I can see the Win 7 32-bit computer, can access files, and can even see and select the hp LaserJet 1012 from within the Universal driver's setup.

The problem comes after I select the printer from within the Universal driver and try to connect to it. That's when I get a prompt for "Connect as" and "Password" with the error, "Unable to connect to the specified address. Make sure the user name and password are correct."

I tried leaving it blank, since no login is required for other networked features, and received the error, "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again." Same thing if I enter an account name from the Win 7 computer.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I will not spend a lot of time espousing why passwords are important, but likely what is happening is that Windows 10 security features do not allow printing to via unauthenticated accounts. You should add a username and password to the Windows 7 computer and then use that username and password to allow access. You could check the share settings to make sure that sharing for printers is active.

Thank you. I neglected to mention that in addition to entering login info for an existing account on the Win 7 computer, I created a new user account and password, and received the "Multiple connections" error at that time as well.

Also, as far as I can tell, the printer is active and the share settings are correct. As I said, I can print to it from Win 7 64-bit computers also on the network.
