I had the same issue this past weekend.  Fortunately the supplier of my aftermarket toner cartridges was aware of the HP firmware issue and their advice saved me the frustration of troubleshooting just to realize that this was a deliberate  action by HP in an obvious effort to force their customers into their supply stream, to only purchase their overpriced toner.  I would happily purchase HP supplies if they were reasonably priced, but considering aftermarket can do it much cheaper while still making money, screams that HP brand pricing is predatory.  I am beyond frustrated/offended by HP’s actions if it wasn’t bad enough enduring the harassment of the relentless low toner messages that cannot be disabled, now it appears HP is hellbent on creating a monopoly over the supply source for their customers printers. I have found that is cheaper to purchase a new printer, with toner, that it is to purchase HP replacement toner cartridges which is just messed up.  I have been a loyal HP customer for decades, but with this deliberate action on their part, I am throwing my perfectly good laser printer in the trash and I am simply done with anything HP.   As a customer I will speak with my choices, there are many other acceptable options, I’ll seek a more customer friendly company for my future needs.

I don't suppose there's a FW downgrade or upgrade that can fix the 10.01.11 error on the M454 (or M479) printers with genuine HP cartridges?

@Tech_Critic, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

No, there is no such option available for HP Laserjet M454 or M479 printers. The only affected printer series is HP Laserjet M280.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
