I am using and an Acer Laptop running Windows 10. What worked for me was to open Settings/ choose Devices/ choose Printers and Scanners/ Select my HP Deskjet from the list of devices/ Click on Manage/ Click on Printer Properties/ Click on the Ports tab at the top of the pop-up box/ Use the scroll bar to get to USB001 and click in the checkbox in front of that port to activate it/ Click OK at the bottom of the pop-up box. My printer started working with the USB printer cable that was attached. Hope this helps someone else.
