I have an HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M477fdw, how do I set up automatic duplex printing?

The most common issue we see is that the driver installation fails to detect that the printer has a duplex unit installed.

On your PC,  go to control panel>devices and printers and then right click on the icon for your printer and select "printer properties" from the drop down menu. Click on the device settings tab and scroll down to installable options and find the duplex option and make sure is shows as installed and if not, change status to installled.

AWESOME! Thanks for the solution; fixed the issue. I figured it was a setting somewhere, but I had exhausted my limited knowledge of setting options! THANKS AGAIN, this will save me a LOT of paper! Blessings and have a wonderful day!

MFP M477fdw stopped duplex printing, presumably after a windows 10 update. This occurred when using two different laptops, but printed correctly when using an iPhone. Couldn't find correct result but eventually I found that two features in the printer properties needed changing back to appropriate responses - within properties, the "device settings" needed changing to installed instead of not installed. Also - within properties. "advanced" tab, the "printing defaults" the option of print on both sides needed altering too before the printer functioned as desired. I note that the printing default option returned to printing on one side under manufacturer defaults, but the printer still prints on both sides automatically. Took me a few hours to find and a lot of paper!!  Hope this helps someone.
