HP Laser Jet MFP M283fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Laser Jet MFP M283fdw and the black scanner/automatic feeder plastic lid hinge (has 2 springs in it) broke and keeps popping out.  it made a loud crack when opening the lid to scan a document  Any assistance would be appreciated

Can you post a picture of the hinge? I might be able to tell you a part number or other model that uses the same hinge. Usually they can be replaced without having to remove the entire top. Was it left side hinge?

Thanks for the photos. The lid looks similar to an M426/M477 series but I admit I have never looked that close at the hinges. Sadly HP does not offer individual parts on models at this level and usually the scanner and ADF are replaced as a single unit called an ISA (integrated scanner assembly). The FFC cables that run between the adf and the scanner are delicate and are easily damaged. I will have a look at a ADF at work on Monday and see if I can advise. You may be stuck trying to find something on Ebay that someone is parting out.

I had a quick look at an m479 and it appears that they use the same hinge design ,and based on experience that means it is the same hinge. I would suggest you check Ebay for someone parting out an ADF. I am also not sure how easily that hinge can be removed without disassembling the entire scanner unit, there does not appear to be much wiggle room and I would worry abou damaging the flat cable on the left rear corner.

The hinge is removable. There are two screws that hold it together, one under the document feeder jam access hatch and one through the bottom of the base of the scanner. Once you remove those two screws you can lift the ADF enough to remove the hinge and replace it. I did remove the hinge from an old M477 so yes it can be done.
