HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We bought an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw and decided to take a chance on non HP toner cartridges because of what HP charges for theirs.  We are teachers and don't have a lot of extra cash.  These cartridges worked great for months and the print quality was excellent.  Suddenly, the printer updated it's firmware automatically and now we get "supply memory error".  If i put old HP cartridges back in, it goes away.  I think that this is an update designed to require printer owners to by ONLY HP toner cartridges for triple to four times the cost of other sources.  If this is the case, I will NEVER buy another HP product as long as I live and will tell every person I can to do the same.  I have found where I can downgrade the firmware but I can't seem to fine the correct file on the HP FTP site since there are tens of thousands of file folders with names like ADE2345 or RET2310.  If anyone knows how to navigate the site or has a copy of the original firmware for the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw, it may fix my problem.

As a remanufacturer, I can tell you that remanufactured cartridges work, as long as you follow the law. If you do not and use chips that violate HP's patents then no they will not work. Valid 3rd party chips must identify to the printer to work. Non HP chips that pretend to be HP are blocked. Blame the vendor of the cartridges not the printer.

If they had not been working for a month before I might be able to accept your explanation.   For them to work and then stop right after a firmware update seems to me to a clue.  I guess I will just buy the **bleep** HP toner since I don't want to have to guess which re-manufactured toner cartridges might fail after the next firmware update.
