Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to connect my 17" HP Omen Laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M that i just bought the other day to a Hynundai monitor via the VGA port at work to do some research and work on a project.  I bought an Insignia HDMI to VGA adapter when I bought the laptop and when i connect the adapter to the laptops hdmi port and the vga cable from the monitor to the vga port on the adapter the screen on the monitor just says No Signal.

Have you tried pressing Win+P and chosed to duplicate or extend?

I brought mine into a boardroom here at the office and the oly time it didn't display anything on teh screen, through an HDMI to VGA adapter is when I pressed Win+P and told it to show only the laptop display.
