HP OMEN Notebook - J9K19UA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

My HP Omen 15 has been shutting down by itself for over a month now. I suspect it is an overheating issue as it usually shuts down while gaming. I have cleaned the vents numerous times. I use the increased fan speed settings, and I have a cooling pad fan plugged in. However, my laptop to continues to shut down. This is the case even with the charger plugged in. Any solutions?

Hi,

To answer your questions:

1. The last time my laptop was working fine was around the middle of March this year. I purchased the laptop in July 2015.

2. I have not made any software of hardware changes on my laptop.

3. I checked to see if my BIOS is updated, and it is.

I followed the article you linked to. I went ahead to perform a Quick Test from the HP PC Hardward Diagnostics UEFI. During the testing, the list shows up as Passed until it begins to test the Hard Drive Short DST Check. At around 20%, my laptop shuts down by itself and is unable to complete the test for Hard Drive Short DST Check and Memory Quick Check. I performed the Quick Test a second time and it shut down by itself again.

Hi @koinleon

I recommend you to boot to bios and leave the computer on the bios screen and check whether the computer shuts down.

If the computer is shutting down in bios as well, then it might be a hardware issue and I recommend you to contact phone support.

Here is how you can get in touch with the phone support.

Open link:  www.hp.com/contacthp/
Enter Product number or select to auto detects
Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number.

Take care!

Cheers!
