Headphone/Mic Multi Jack Problems

HP Recommended

I am well aware of how to hook up a headset with a microphone, but I am trying to plug in a good high quality microphone into the multijack and it won't recognize that there is a mic plugged into it. Keeps trying to treat it as if it a headset and not just a mic. Anyone out there find a fix for this?

Hi @2FMRaines,

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions.

I saw your post where are you facing difficulty in using an external high-quality microphone on a multi-jack port on the PC and kudos to you for providing the details. Don't worry, I'd like to help.

I recommend you to try a few steps: (You might have already tried some of them.)

Right click on the speaker icons on the taskbar, select recording devices and check if the microphone is listed.

If yes, select it as the default device.

Connect the microphone and run Windows updates from the settings, if any additional drivers are required this could fix it.

Also, check for updates using HP Support Assistant while the microphone is connected, this would also check if any updates for drivers are available for the microphone to respond.

You could also refer to article http://hp.care/2eGLFXK it explains other troubleshooting steps related to the microphone.

Let me know if this helped. I would gladly assist you further.
