Just bought an HP Omen laptop today, games very laggy

HP Omen
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I just bought my HP Omen from Best Buy today, and after getting it set up, I installed Steam and Farcry 4.  I started it up, and it all ran smoothly, even on ultra graphics settings.  However, when anything big happens in the game (explosions, lots of enemies on screen, etc.), the game seems to skip and lag.  Is this something wrong on the laptop's end or is it something related to the game itself?  My desktop is able to run the game somewhat well.

Thanks!

Jesse Bell

Hi @JesseBell,

Welcome to the HP Forum! It is a terrific place to find answers and tips! For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide. First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More. What is the exact model of Omen that you have? HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number, Serial Number or Product Number?

After purchasing your Omen and setting it up, you installed Steam and Far Cry 4. All works well except, whenever anything big happens in the game, such as many enemies on the screen or explosions, the game seems to skip or lag.

Have you done all your Windows updates? Have you run the HP Support Assistant? Have you run the Windows troubleshooter? Here is a link that may also help. HP Notebook PCs - Green Screen and Other Video Playback Issues (Windows 8, 7) (Steps will be the same for Windows 10).  Please keep me updated.
