Permissions, or lack thereof

HP Recommended
HP OMEN 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I Have been using the OMEN for a while (little over a month) and I have to say, its a great comeputer. However Recently, a game (Kenshi http://lofigames.com/)  I played a lot (on this computer) stopped working. I have been in contact with the game Devs and they have been instructing me on how to fix it, one was delete the games save files, When I tried to do so I said I do not have permissions from my computer to do so, how is this possible? Im the only user on this computer. Any help to fix this issue would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

You could edit the security permissions for these files, however a much easier method would be to use the utility on the following link - this will add 'Take Ownership' to the right click context menu.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vist...

Once installed, just right click on the file you need to access and select Take Ownership - you should then be able to delete the file.

Regards,

Hello,

I appreciate the help, I have done what you asked, but alas, the files still cannot be deleted. I'll admit, I am at a loss as to why I cant delete this files, and as to why the game, Connected to this file(s) dont work anymore.

Hi,

You're welcome :generic:

In that case, I'd suggest deleting the files at boot - you can do this as follows.

Open a command prompt at boot using either of the 2 methods detailed in the link below.

http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2880-command-prompt-boot-open-windows-10-a.html

Once done, you can delete the files using the method on the following link - the guide doesn't list Windows 10, but it will work just the same - as mentioned at the start of the guide, make sure you first have the full path for each of the files you need to delete, including it's extension - once you have this, go to Section 4 Part b of the guide to make sure you have the correct drive letter.

Then use the command shown in Section 6 to delete the specific file - repeat this command for each file you wish to remove.
