I was trying to scan a document to my phone through hp smart, got an error message saying scan was not supported (I know it is!).

Thought maybe I'd try remove and add the printer again in HP smart. BAD DECISION!

Now the printer can't be found at all from any device except computer.

Help needed.

Thanks.

Your mobile options are quite limited on this printer.

What does that mean?

HP Smart for Mobile is not supported on this printer model.

Sorry, but your answer is actually incorrect.

I have HP Smart on both my phone and tablet, and both work just fine, printing and scanning.

We actually discovered later that my son's computer is the culprit: the moment he turned it off, everything went back to normal.

So now my problem is taking a different turn.

Not only he cannot see the printer when he looks for one, but his presence on the network actually prevents me from reaching it.

I already checked the permissions for the printer in my HP account, I had him delete all HP drivers from server and uninstall and reinstall HP smart.

No joy.

Again, looking for any suggestion to solve.

OK.

I am not able to effectively answer the questions.

The documentation I am using indicates that the printer model does not support HP Smart Mobile.

That the printer appears to do so is fine - great, even, since you are using HP Smart on your mobile devices.

The contrary nature of the situation does present problems for me since am not familiar with the printer model.

I can offer a couple of places to look -

then I recommend you start a new thread so a different Expert can answer.

Printer Firmware

Is the printer Firmware updated?

HP DeskJet, OfficeJet 5200 Printers - Printing Self-Test Pages

Print out the Network Configuration Page

Compare the firmware version on the printer to the update offered at the driver page.

For example, at this writing, the firmware update version is: 2025A

If the firmware is outdated, consider fixing that situation.

Isolating the Problem

If you switch off the devices other than the computer, can the computer then download-save-install the Full Feature Software?

Connection - Bandwidth

Product Specifications for the HP OfficeJet 5220 All-in-One Printer (M2U81B)

Connectivity

Ports
1 Hi-Speed USB 2.0; 1 Wi-Fi 802.11n (dual band)
Wireless capability
Yes

If you have not done so, check how your devices are connected to your network, which band they are using (2.4GHz or 5GHz).

Normal operations would indicate each bandwidth be assigned its own network name (SSID).

It is important that each device be connected to the router and the particular network SSID that device supports.

General example - Dual Band network - SSID names

SSID_Dual_Band_Example_1SSID_Dual_Band_Example_1Network_SSID_Names_1Network_SSID_Names_1

The router, as long as it is broadcasting on both bandwidths, can handle the traffic that comes in from devices on one band or the other.

Although the SSID network names are different for each bandwidth, the Wi-Fi passwords can be the same for both.

Failure to manage the network can cause devices to trip over each other, cause drop-offs, cause conflicts.

============================================================================

When you open the new thread, please at least include the following:

  • The Operating System and version on the computer
  • The status of having installed the Full Feature Software on the computer
  • The status of the network - dual band?  If yes, how named, managed.  Are any devices using static IP?
  • How is the printer connected?  Which band/SSID?  Static IP?  TCP/IP connection on the computer?

  • Mention the type of mobile devices and the Operating System and version on each.

This information might be significant - the documentation says the mobile devices are not compatible with the printer - your experience says otherwise.
