I could print from my phone until November 16, 2020.  At the same time, my wife lost the ability to print from both her phone and her Ipad.  I have made repeated attempts to load HP Direct Print and HP Print Smart.  HP Smart displays the printer and says its ready.  When I try to print a document by selecting print from the drop down menu, the display says "Fetching Printer Settings" and the graphic swirls and swirls until the message "Cannot communicate with printer" appears or until I cancel out.  I have uninstalled the printer from the network and downed and rebooted the router.  I have reinstalled the printer and downloaded new printer drivers to make sure they are current.  However, we still cannot print from our phones or from the Ipad.

@Woneye, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to print from your phones. Let us try these steps:

Check for any pending software updates on the phones.

  • Make sure the printer and the Phones are connected to the same wireless network.
  • Either 2.4Ghz(recommended) or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.

Use the HP Smart app to print from your Android phone. Refer to this document for info on how to use the app to print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
