Are you able to crop an item you want to scan before scanning? If so, how?

Hi,
Be sure to check the box to show viewer after scan within the HP Scan application.
Either follow the steps above and it wi detect any item, then delete the additional columns by right clicking it within the review and selecting delete, only keep teh required colums and press save
Alternatively select any scan size such as A4 and press Scan, within the preview window click the thumbnail at teh left pane, then crop the required area using your mouse by marking the scan preview area..
Once the preview seems fine press Save.

Hi,
Open the HP Officejet 4650 software and press on Scan a document or Photo.
Select Save as JPEG scan shortcut, then set the item type as Photo.
Set the Page Size as Auto Detect Size and press Scan.
Any seperate item will be cropped.

More clarification for what I want to accomplish. A document has three vertical columns, but I only want to scan the middle column, how do I set the scanner to scan only the middle column? The previous HP printer would prepare the article for scanning, then I would crop it to what I wanted to scan and then when I scanned it it would only scan the cropped portion.
