I followed the advice for this issue, creating a new SSID AT 2.4G and my printer connected. But now my computers (which are on the faster 5G network) cannot find the printer as they are on different wireless networks. Since my original SSID on the ARRIS router was set to BOTH (2.4 and 5), why can't the printer connect to the original SSID?

Welcome to HP Community
I have gone through your Post and would like to help
The Printer cannot work on a 5GHz
If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, then the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
