I was just trying to use the platten to copy and print a document for the first time on this new printer and this error message was displayed and many lights are flashing. This issue should have nothing to do with wifi, connectivity, or operating system as far as I can gather. I have turned off, unplugged, and restarted numerous times but this printer no longer functions. Is there a list of error messages somewhere? If so I can't find this one.

Hi @MICH19,
Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!
I understand that you are facing issues with your new Envy printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.
If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website.
For more assistance, please follow all the steps suggested in teh support document for - HP Printers - 'Ink System Failure' or '0x ...' Error Code Displays
If the issue persists, please contact the HP phone support to get the service options.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:www.hp.com/contacthp/

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Cheers

Thanks for the message but this did not help. Once plugged back in it simply gives the same error message again and continues to flash so it is not possible to even try to make a copy. The document you provided does not list this code.

Jeet - I have tried to call phone support and the numbers listed for the Bahamas do not work!!! Why can no one tell me what error code 00829C98 means? This number is shown on a blue screen along with a circle and line icon which looks exactly like the on/off button icon. All lights are flashing and the printer has been hard started a numer of times as directed AND is plugged direct into a wall outlet. Once on and flashing like this, the printer can't even be turned off using the on/off button (must be unplugged) and NONE of the buttons can be pushed. I am on an island and have no way to return this without sailing it back to the US. This printer is one month old and worked fine printing from my computer until I tried to make a copy using the platten for the first time. There must be some way to help me?

Hi @MICH19,
Thank you for replying,
As I understand you want to know about the error code 00829C98, I tried to find but unfortunately, I was not able to get any information. However, "0x" can be related to several reasons such as Power, Paper Jam, Carriage Jam, Scanner failure.
This looks like a possible hardware failure, however, you can try to update the printer firmware, If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website. You might need a Windows PC to run the firmware.
Keep me posted,
If the information I've provided was helpful,

Good Luck.

All I know about this error is that it is related to firmware of the printer.
You may try the below steps.
1. While the printer is On, unplug the power cord from back of the printer.
2. Now power off the PC and Wireless Router.
3. Wait for 30 seconds.
4. Power On the printer by plugging in the power cord.
5. Check if the error shows up. If yes call HP TECH Support (USA) 1-800-474-6836
6. If no error , power on the wireless router . Now check if the error shows up then you might have to call your ISP and update the router firmware.
