Please help,

I set up my new HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series printer about a week ago and it keeps dropping the wifi signal connecting it to both my printer and my phone, to be able to print wireless. If I turn the printer off, then back on, or if I turn the wifi on my printer off, then back on, it will reconnect and allow me to print again.

The message I get from my computer is that the printer is "offline." It won't connect to HP Instant Ink, it just says, "Cannot connect to printer now, Try again later." And when I try to print from my phone it is unable to find the printer unless I disconnect from my home wifi and connect to the printers. 

 

I have tried several solutions, multiple times, to no avail. They only work temporarily, if at all.

 

I have downloaded HP Smart, Print and Scan doctor, tried all the tips on HP support, disconnected it from the wifi then reset it up (many times), set up and enabled wifi direct, downloaded latest firmware and software updates, and chatted with the virtual agent and did everything it asked me to. I also printed out the HP Network configuration page and wireless network test results and they both passed and didn't come back with saying anything was wrong. I have very good signal strength to my printer and it isn't far from my router.

 

Anyone who has any answers, please help! I really don't want to have to turn off and on my printer every time I want to print something. Actually, I wont. If it keeps doing this I will just send it back.

@ShyMom, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the PC should be on the 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

 

Let us assign a static IP address to the printer to resolve this issue:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
  • Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
