Does anyone know how to connect the HP ENVY 7800 to a laptop running Windows XP?
I have been unable to do it.

Welcome to the HP Support-Community.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to connect your new ENVY 7800 series to your computer if you use Windows XP 64-Bit. ☹️
See also the system requirements:
"Windows XP SP3 or higher (32-bit only): any Intel Pentium II, Celeron or 233 MHz compatible processor, 850 MB available hard disk space, CD-ROM/DVD drive or Internet connection, USB port, Microsoft Internet Explorer 8"
