I select the photo tray, hit print and it says there is no printer paper in the photo tray. When I recheck the paper it's not showing it as loaded.

I went through all the fields in the print setup on my computer, so I'm baffeld as to what the problem may be...

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are unable to print 4x6 photos from photo tray.

Follow the below steps:

  1. Open the photo, click File, and then click Print. For the Photos app, select a layout, and then click Print.

    The print settings window opens.

  2. If you do not see the following options in the window, click Show Details.

Example of print settings with Show Details selected

  3. Select your printer from the Printer menu.

  4. Click the unnamed print options menu at the center of the dialog to access more print settings.

  5. Select paper type as 4x6 photo paper.

  6. Click Media & Quality, and then select photo tray from the Feed from menu.

Let me know if that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

I went through the process of selecting the 4x6 tray but it was still printing from the 8x11 tray. Only when I took the 8x11 tray out was I able to print and admittedly it was still a challenge. HP is typically very easy to engage with so I'm sure I may be doing someting incorrectly.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

I understand the issue better now.

Reinstall the printer driver using AirPrint.

  1. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  2. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign  to delete the printer, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.

  3. Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu
  4. Open a document or photo, click File, and then click Print.
