New printer all set up but very slow to start printing

Hi @blklex15,

I'd like to help!

I understand that the printer is printing slow.

To assist better -

  1. How is the printer connected to the device USB or wireless?
  2. Is there antivirus software installed on your Mac?

Meanwhile, Try the below suggestions-

Try updating mac and printer firmware

To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

To update Mac, try these steps - How to update the software on your Mac

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

  1. If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.

  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  3. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  4. Wait 60 seconds.

  5. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

    NOTE:

HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

  6. Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Turn off Quiet Mode (Mac)

Quiet Mode reduces noise levels when printing, but can also reduce print speed.

Quiet Mode is not available for all printers.

  • HP Smart app: Open the HP Smart app, click your printer, click Printer Home Page (EWS). On the Settings tab, scroll down, click Quiet Mode under Preferences, select Off, and then click Apply.

    NOTE:

If prompted for a password or PIN, enter the password previously set by the printer administrator or PIN from the label on your printer. You can find the label on the back of the printer or open the cartridge access door and look inside the printer.

  • HP Utility: Click Finder, click Go > Applications, double-click the HP folder, and then double-click HP Utility. Select your printer, click Quiet Mode, select Off, and then click Apply Now.

Reduce print quality to improve print speed (Mac)

Selecting certain paper types or printing in higher quality can slow print speeds. Print with plain paper in reduced quality for faster print speeds.

  1. On your Mac, open the photo or document you want to print, and then click File > Print.

  2. In the Print Settings window, make sure your printer is selected, and then click Show Details.

  3. In the drop-down menu in the center of the window, select Paper Type/Quality or Media & Quality, and then select Normal or Draft from the Quality or Print Quality menu or slider.

Selecting Normal print quality in the Print Settings window

Print with both cartridges (inkjet printers)

If your printer supports printing with only one cartridge, doing so might reduce print speed.

  1. Open the cartridge access door, and then make sure all cartridges are properly installed.

  2. Check ink levels, and then replace any empty cartridges.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
