Laptop/Galaxy S6 connectivity via USB issue

My new laptop doesn't recognize the presence of the cellphone in "file explorer" when plugged in.  My old laptop enabled me to navigate and download photos from my phone just as if it were an external hard drive.   I know I can save them to the cloud, work them with Photoshop and then save them to my laptop, which is what I'm doing now, but having something that I can't figure out drives me crazy.  Sorry.  I like having the original and the re-worked version both on my own external hard drive for posterity's sake.  And, I'm never certain that nothing is ever lost or damaged when it is transmitted, stored and then retrieved.  Call me old fashioned.

@gkphoto Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are unable to connect the mobile to the computer.

Have you tried a different USB port?

Please let me know are you able to connect the mobile with a different laptop without any issue.

To check the USB port, please perform the component test and check.
