I want to make my printer private and have a password when people click to use my printer. I’m tired of people in my apartment building using all my ink and paper

Hi @Deidra00

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

  • You cannot set a password to the printer.
  • Make sure the printer is connected to a secured wireless network. HP does not recommend connecting the printer to a guest network.
  • If the printer is on a private network, do not share the password to your wireless network so that the printer cannot be accessed.
  • Any device connected to the same wireless network will be able to print to the printer.

Alternatively, you may use a USB cable between the printer and the PC which is most secure.
