I've got a new printer simple printer, USB connection. Not for wireless printing, mainly for scanning and occasional prints.

Added it to imac no problem, but when I press print it doesn't. It makes all the correct indications: printer on, then printer printing- no sounds from printer and no printing.  I have scanned & printed on the printer and it works fine.

I have tried everthing: checked  cables,  & router, switched on and off, re-set printers, checked compatibility with Mac, tried on my Macbook pro - same issue.

Went onto apple , re-booted computer,  followed all the trouble shooting trails but nothing doing.

In set up the only thing I keep running into is ' Unable to verify the printer on your network' - now since this printer does not do air printing , I'm not sure how relevant this is... But i did try all the work arounds that I read about.

I'm about to return the printer.

I must be missing something, very frustrated.

Thank you

@omaaaaa, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

If you are using a USB cable, make sure the cable is directly connected between the MAC and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your MAC.

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the MAC?

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your MAC:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello Kumar,

Thank you.

I standalone scanned an image and it printed fine.

Of your list the only thing that is not the same is the usb hub. The printer under system report was under the usb 3.0. and I changed it to a 2.O, but nothing changed. I restarted the computer. Still nothing.

When I press print, it even says Printing- The printer is in use. The light on the printer flickers for a bit.

But nothing happens.

I have tried hp smart app, but it says printer not connected by USB.

Tried it numerous times.  A couple of times it found it for a minute then it was gone and still not able to do anything.

I understand my printer does not print wirelessly, or so they said when I bought it.

Another thing I noticed:

Under System Report: Hardware: Printers:

Scanning support: No

What does this mean?

Thanks

Go to System Information > Applications and check for and uninstall any anti-virus program if any.

Reset the printing system as shown in this document.

Uninstall any HP software that might have been installed, and then add the printer.

  1. Download and open HP Easy Start.

  2. Open the HP Easy Start drop-down menu, and then click Uninstall HP Software.

    Clicking Uninstall HP Software

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall all HP software.

Now, download and install the driver from here

Let me know how this goes.
