@DiverRon, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're facing a few issues with your HP Envy 5530 printer after a MacBook update, including a forgotten password, low ink warning despite new cartridges, and connection issues with your iPhone. Let's go through each issue step-by-step:

Forgotten Printer Password (Wi-Fi Direct or Network Password)

If your iPhone is asking for a password, it’s likely trying to connect via Wi-Fi Direct or your wireless network. Here's how to retrieve or reset it:

To find/reset Wi-Fi Direct password:

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Wi-Fi Direct.
  2. Tap Display Name or Wi-Fi Direct Password.
  3. You can view or change the password here.

To reset wireless settings (if needed):

  1. On the printer, go to Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
  2. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

Low Ink Warning Despite New Cartridges

This can happen if the printer doesn’t recognize the new cartridges properly. Try the following:

Steps to resolve:

  1. Make sure the cartridges are genuine HP and correctly installed.
  2. Remove and reinsert the cartridges.
  3. Clean the cartridge contacts:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  4. Restart the printer.

iPhone Asking for Password

If you're printing from your iPhone using AirPrint or Wi-Fi Direct, ensure:

  • The printer is on the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone.
  • If using Wi-Fi Direct, use the password found in the steps above.
  • You can also try removing and re-adding the printer in your iPhone’s print settings.

If the issue persists, I recommend updating the printer firmware and HP Smart app on your Mac and iPhone.
