HP Envy 7640 All-in-one Printer

Hi Everyone,

I have been having a Power issue with my printer. You are supposed to be able to print from any device wirelessly and the printer should turn on and print mine does Not. You are supposed to hit the power button and the printer should turns on and mine does Not. The only way I can get it to work is by me going to the printer and unplugging it from the back of the printer then plug it back in, which is a big hassle every time I want to use my printer. The easy convenience, and being able to print pictures from this printer is why I wanted it in the first place. I have had this issue since I got it, but since it was new to me I wasn't sure if I was using it right or not. Now of course  the warranty is up I'm stuck with this problem unless I spend money on something that hasn't worked properly since I got it. I was wondering if anyone else is having or has had this same issue with their HP ENVY 7640 or am I just the lucky one.  If you have/had this issue what did you do to fix it? I don't want to go buy a different one or brand of printer but I'm not having good luck with HP.

@MacDowell

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor: Follow steps from the link: Click here

Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP DeskJet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

To reinstall, click here.

  • If the issue continues, uninstall and reinstall printer Basic drivers from the link: Click here
  • If the issue still continues, install using Using the Windows Built-in Print DriverClick here

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
