Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The 7640 is on my network. Printing works great from my laptop (Windows 10) but when I try to print from my iPhone, I get a message that the "Paper tray is empty". I have checked all settings and the default paper tray is the letter tray, but my iphone does not recognize it and it does not give me the option to select a paper tray. I tried following the advice previously given but there is no "System Preference" on my windows based laptop or on my iphone so the instructions do not make sense.  Please help!

@123abc6, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

Are you using the HP Smart app or AirPrint option to print from your iOS device?

Which type of document are you trying to print?

 

Update the printer firmware

Go to Setup > tools > update the printer

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

 

Also, check for any software updates on the iOS device

Go to Settings > general > update the software

 

Refer to this document to know how to print from your iOS device.

I am using Airprint. The strange thing is it worked always then one day it gave the "photo paper tray empty" message.  There is no way on the printer to change the paper tray and on my laptop, everything points to letter as the default tray.

 

The printer driver is up to date as is the firmware. HELP!

If you are able to print fine from the Win PC, it means the printer settings are fine and this issue is related to the printer settings on the iOS device.

 

Open the paper tray, close it. You will get a pop-up menu asking you to select the paper type/size. Select the appropriate option.

 

Install and use the HP Smart app to check if that helps. Refer to this document for more info.
