Trying to print from my photo library using my phone. The printer says failure to print due to cartridge. It’s an HP cartridge. I followed the steps of unplugging the 7640 printer and restarting after 60 seconds. The cartridge shows a lot of ink remaining and is able to print when not using the HPsmart app. 
any ideas of how to fix?

It sounds like the issue might be with how the HP Smart app is communicating with the printer rather than the cartridge itself. Since the printer can print outside of the app, try these steps to troubleshoot:

  • Make sure the app is updated to the latest version. If not, update it and restart your phone.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the app to clear any potential glitches.
  • Even if it’s an HP cartridge, go to the printer settings and check if there are any alerts regarding ink. You might also try removing and reinserting the cartridge
