emails from my iPhone to the printer,6960, print in VERY large font and treble spaced, why?

HP Recommended
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Reinstalled after stepping up from ZP to Windows 10, installed by HP support, (for a small charge) as the original disk couldn't install anything more than the printer. No comp to fax and no scan available.

The following may be helpful - or a waste of your time.  I apologise if it is the latter.

It sounds like you have two separate issues:

  • Print Size is too large in iOS printing
  • Printer Software may not be fully installed on your Lenovo PC.

Printing with HP Smart in iOS

Direct printing from email in iOS 13.x appears to lack any controls to manage the size of the output (print on paper).

The following might work - granted it requires extra steps to get the email content into a format that allows you to "fit" the data to the paper.  Additionally, there may be a "better" way to do this, too.  ??

If you have not done so, update / add HP Smart to your iOS Apps

If you have not done so, add OneNote to your Apps

Open the email that you want to print

Select "all" on the email content to be copied

Open OneNote

Click + Page (or similar - I am using iPad Pro so this may not be the same)

Paste the email content into OneNote page

If desired, erase part of the content that was copied as a means to limit what is printed

Click the Share icon (upper right of OneNote menu on iPad, may be similar on iPhone)

Click Send Copy of Page

Click Send with another App

Slide the icon selections to the right - Find and click "Copy to HP Smart"

File, now a PDF, opens in HP Smart

Click on the Print icon at the bottom of the page

Tap on the content of the page to "activate"

Click "Fit to Page" or "Fill Page"

In the upper right, click Done

Click the Print option at the bottom of the page

Complete the first part of the procedure to to point where you copy the content to HP Smart

Exit (Click the Home key)

When ready,

Open HP Smart app

Find your saved content, likely in the HP Smart "Inbox"

Open the PDF file, set the available options (fit), and print

Install and Use the HP Smart App (Android, Apple iOS, iPadOS)

The general procedure also works with "Pages" - In this case, you can actually edit the content to fit the page, change the fonts / font size, and complete minor cleanup and edits.

In most cases, HP Smart requires the content (whatever you are printing) to be copied into HP Smart - or available to the application.  For example, photo printing does not require the copying and editing, plus the sizing options are a bit better in the latest version of HP Smart (7.x at this writing).

Printer Software for the PC

I would guess that if the printer software was installed but it is not working, that the software did not install fully.

This could be due to a number of factors, some of which might be addressed with a thorough removal and reinstallation of the software.

Before you try anything else, you may wish to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor - it does find and fix a number of issues, the software is easy to run, and it won't make anything worse.

The Doctor can help with several issues, including driver, connection, and "jobs stuck in the queue".

** Printer Software – Blocked in Security Software **

Check your Security Software to make sure the printer software is not being blocked.  Most Security software will allow you to make an exception for applications / software you want to use on your computer.

Method One - Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >

Method Two - Settings > Apps > Apps and Features >

  • Select your Video

** Optional - For Windows 10 Users – Compatibility Mode **

If you have been having trouble getting the printer software to fully install (Printer Assistant is functional and Scanning works), consider using Compatibility.  Note that this method only fixes “one type” of difficulty; installing this way may – or may not – make the necessary difference.

Right-Click on the downloaded installation file > Properties > Compatibility

Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for"

Select Windows 8 (or the closest you can find)

Click Apply and OK to close the Properties menu

Right-Click on the installation file and select to Run as Administrator

Consider installing the printer Firmware

READ (when provided) all information and instructions before installing the firmware

If / After the firmware is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Reminder:  Firmware is normally updated after the printer software is installed / functional.

** Port Issues - Create a TCP/IP port **

The assigned port may fail to connect the printer or certain printer activities (Scan).  Create / Switch to a TCP/IP Port to facilitate communication and prevent ‘offline’ issues

How-to “Create TCP Port” Contributed by  greenturtle:

Create TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, Right-Click the printer and Left-Click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:
Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)
