hp j6400 series printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a hp j6400 printer that has served me very well over the years.  Recently, I find that I cannot print wifi.  I can print by connecting directly by USB.  I have run the Print and Scan Doctor several times.  Now when asked which printer, I have the following choices.  hp office jet 6400 series _TMP00 USB, hp office jet 6400 series  IP 169.254.50.0, HP400BCD( hp office jet 6400 series) IP 192.168.1.71.  These are all "installed".  I have always used the hp office jet 6400 series  IP 169.254.50.0. The HP doctor states "failure to communicate".  The doctor found and fixed HP400BCD, but this does not appear in my selections in HP solution center. I have powered down the printer and router for over one minute each, but this did not correct the issue.  I am using Windows 10 with latest updates on a Dell Inspiron 5567.  Sorry for the long diatribe, but wanted to give all info I can.

Welcome to HP support community.

Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Remove all instances of the same.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • Restart the PC again.

Download and install printer full feature driver

I hope that helps.
