OfficeJet PRO 8600 N911g randomly issues "connection has been lost"message. I have run the latest HP "Doctor" application. Everything runs fine just after that but later in the day/week, I get the same connection error message. HP software appears to be fully updated including drivers. My Win10 software is also current. The ONLY way I have found to resolve this is rebooting the printer, hardly a practical solution since it is in another room! There must be a setting on either the PC (Microsoft Surface) or the printer that is offending the other device.... Oh yeah, I have uninstalled and reinstalled HP software numerous times, no permanent cure.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Let's restore the network settings on the Printer: 1. Touch (right arrow), touch Setup, and then touch Network. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then select Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.
Once done, connect the Printer back to the Wi-Fi: The Wireless Setup Wizard provides an easy way to set up and manage a wireless connection to your printer from the printer control panel. 1. Set up the printer hardware. See the getting started guide or the setup poster that came with your printer. 2. On the printer control panel, touch (right arrow), touch Setup, and then touch Network. 3. Touch Wireless, touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then touch OK. 4. Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.
Let me know if this helps.
