My printer isn't detecting paper, although paper is in there. I've taken it out and opened the printer to check for jams, and reinserted paper. It still does not detect that there is paper in it. Is this fixable? Or, do I need to just get a new printer?

Hi @arikariii

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the "paper feed issue" issue.

To better assist you -

1)Are you able to make copies using the printer?

2)What is the paper type and paper size you are using?

3) What's the application you are trying to print from? Have you tried printing from a different application or devices?

Meanwhile, Try a power reset on the printer.

Step 1:Reset the product

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  1. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Step 2:Check the paper, and then reload it

Check the paper stack for defects such as wrinkled, torn, or bent pieces that might cause a pick-up issue.

  1. Remove any paper from the paper tray.

  2. Remove any severely bent, wrinkled, or torn paper found in the stack.

  3. Check for obstructions inside the paper tray. Make sure nothing blocks the paper from engaging with the rollers.

  4. Make sure the paper stack is even on all sides.

  5. Load the stack of paper into the paper tray.

  6. Close or push in the paper tray.

  7. Select the correct paper size on the printer control panel or in the printer software.
