unable to install printer 8620
06-16-2020 03:41 PM

HI,
I have a 8620 officejet printer. I was able to set up the wifi on the printer.. but seem to be having trouble installing the printer on any of my machines with the HP officejet pro 8620 software meant for this printer. When I start the software, I am able to go through the 1st few steps fine.. the tool finds my printer, I select it and press "next". At that point I go into a long wait for it to try to install. It (After a really long time) gives a message saying it ws unable to install the printer.
I am able to find and install the printer using the windows "install a printer" feature, but that does not let me scan documents. I used the HP print and scan doctor and it worked just fine.. allowed me to even print a testcase.. but then I didn't seem to have regular software installed (to say for example scan a document). THe next time it asked me to install the software and took me through the regular process for the software (the HP officejet pro 8620)... and I ran into the same prblem.. of it being unable to install the printer. Any thoughts or suggestions will be most welcome
thnx
Sameer

@samjain135, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Follow below version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe
Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference.
Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win PC
Click here to download and know more about the app.
Alternatively, perform a clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
- Select your HP Printer
- Select Uninstall
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
- In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
- Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
- Click on the “Drivers” tab
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
- Select Ok
- Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
- Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.
Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.
Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
