Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've had this issue for a while now...After a Win10 update, any time I want to play a video or listen to music, I must reboot my machine.  Otherwise, the program that's running freezes and chews up massive CPU cycles trying to run.  This has been ging on for about 6 mos. I have an HP Envy 360 2-in-1 laptop m6-aq003dx with Bang & Olufsen sound.  Is there a driver update or something? Last time I looked I had the most recent driver you all offered.

Hi @Hulkaphile,

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that you require assistance regarding issues with audio after a Windows 10 update. It will be a delight to assist you here.:)

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you try to uninstall the drivers completely from device manager and reinstall it?
  • Did you check by playing multiple audio tracks if it plays back fine to isolate if it is an issue with online streaming or the video application that you use?
  • Did you try multiple video apps and browsers?

For now please try these steps:

Please multiple audio tracks and check if it works without restarting or if the computer freezes.

If it plays fine and only does this in the video app, try to uninstall and reinstall the Video app.

If the issue continues then please follow these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers. Then check the box delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset and audio drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2iyrGym and check again.
  • This should do the trick for you.
  • Otherwise please create a new local user account as an administrator from here and check if it resolves the issue without freezing. If it does then the old User account has an issue and so continue using the new user account.
  •
  • If it still freezes, then please check the unwanted task manager processes and apps that hog CPU usage and end their tasks by following the steps from this link: http://hp.care/2sD0hyh
  • and check if the issue gets resolved.
  •
  • Finally, if nothing works, please perform a Microsoft push button reset from this link: http://hp.care/2g0Tjzs;and it will not cause you to lose data. It should fix the issue also.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

The step you posted (below) appears to have done the trick.  A few of these drivers were outdated.

Thank you
