HP Spectre x 360-13-ae011dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After updating my laptop with the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 (KB4541335), the internal audio stopped working. I can use my headphones just fine, but the internal speaker itself is not working.  At first I thought it was a problem with the sound, but after going into the device manager, I found out that the Speakers and Microphone Array were "not migrated".

I have tried various methods to fix this but nothing has worked so far.

1. I have tried the audio troubleshooter and nothing has changed

2. I tried disabling and then enabling both the speakers and microphone

3. I tried uninstalling and then re-installing both the speakers and microphone

4. I tried updating the BIOS and Audio driver

5. I tried the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Tool and for some reason I could hear the audio when the tests were playing, but not when I would use my browser.

6. I event tried doing a system reset to the day before I updated my laptop, but my speakers still aren't working.

I am running out of options and I would appreciate any and every advice to fix these speakers.

Thank you very much! The device is now migrated!

However, I do have another question if you don't mind.

The device in Audio Input and Output is now migrated, but I still do not have any sound playing. I checked the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers tab, and I found another "issue". Mainly it just says "Device install requested". I tried to update the driver via the Device Manager tab, but it already said it was up to date. I then tried to uninstall the sound, and then re-install it again, but the same message appeared about an install being requested. To make matters worse, the message "device not migrated" message appeared once again under the Audio Input and Output tab, so I reset my laptop again .

Now I am back to square one.  I just wanted to ask if I need to download the audio driver from HP in order for the "device install requested" to go away.

Also this is what I am seeing in case it will help.

Please download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

I downloaded the support assistant and checked for updates like you said, but there weren't any related to the audio. The only update I had was for the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. I even checked for window's updates as well, but it just said my computer is up to date.

I went to the software and drivers tab on the HP support site and downloaded the audio driver :

Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver (Windows 10 V1709/V1803)

6.0.1.8536 Rev.B

The device is now supposedly installed, but it says "Device Configured Null".

Sorry but could you please share some info if you found a solution to your problem, my 840 G4 has no internal audio but external audio works fine.

Thank you

Well technically, the audio isn't really fixed yet.

My initial problem was that the internal speaker was not working due to the device not being migrated. I was able to fix that by resetting my laptop, and the link to the guide was posted by KrazyToad. If you do that your audio might return.

However, I have a new problem because the audio still isn't working. The "Audio Input and Output drivers are migrated, but now I believe its an issue with the "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers" system  because the device driver for that system is null. I hope resetting your laptop works for you.

At this point I suggest you perform a System Recovery after you backup your Data

The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file inorder to install Windows operating system. Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06162205 to Use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7)

Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04758961#AbT3 to perform a System Recovery (Windows 10)

Thank you
