HP 4410t Laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I'm trying to get some use out of an old laptop, so I recently upgraded my old HP 4410t notebook to Windows 10 (64bit).  I did a fresh install.  Everything works surprisingly well, but I can no longer get any sound. Windows recognizes a device and uses SoundMAX (or High Definition Audio Device if I uninstall the driver), but no matter what the settings I get no sound.

I have checked ALL settings, followed basically every walkthrough (uninstalled driver, reinstalled, switched to Windows generic driver), still nothing.  The troubleshooter cannot find a problem.  Disabling audio enhancements does nothing.

If I boot the computer to a live version of Linux off of a CD, the sound works just fine.  It will play perfectly.

I have tried to look for drivers on the HP website but they are no longer listed.  I have tried driver update programs (SDI, Driver Booster) but they do not find a issue with the current driver or recommend a new one.  I have scoured the web looking for information on the audio driver I need, but found nothing.  I installed the HP Support Assistant but it didn't recommend any drivers and the audio troubleshooting couldn't find any problems.

I'm kind of at my wits end, can someone please help?  Even if you could just let me know what my device is or what driver I should be looking for I would be really grateful.  Thanks so much.

Here is my machine info:

Hi:

There are drivers for your PC, but very few, and none for W10 since your notebook was made prior to August of 2013.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try one of these two W7 64 bit Soundmax drivers from two different model HP business class notebooks.

What I did was to match up similar model notebooks that could have used the same processor your notebook has.

Try this one first.

This package provides the ADI SoundMAX AD1984A Audio Driver for the supported notebook/laptop models and operating systems.

If that doesn't work, try this one...ADI AD1981HD Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows

Hi Paul, thanks so much for your quick reply!  Unfortunately, neither seemed to work.

I ran the first one (sp45115.exe) and it unpacked but then when it ran it gave me the message: "The audio driver files do no support your computer hardware  Note: If you uninstalled audio software without restarting your PC, restart now, then run this setup again."

I restarted the computer, since other posters on here have said they got that message and restarted and their sound was working.  No dice.

So I went into device manager and manually updated the driver with the file that the installer unpacks ("ADIHdAud").  Restart.  No dice.  When I logged in, now the volume icon in the notification bar had a red circle with an 'X' in it.  No sound, and clicking on the icon made Windows run a troubleshooter that ended up reinstalling the generic driver (which also didnt play any sound but didn't have the red circle and at least showed that an audio device was recognized).

Same steps, with the second driver you gave, same error message, same results.

Any suggestions?  Is there another way I should be trying to install these?

You're very welcome.

Sorry that neither of those drivers worked for you.

Please post the hardware ID for the soundmax audio device, or multimedia audio controller if no driver is installed.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device...

I'll see if there is some other driver you can try.

Under hardware ids I get:

And just in case it's useful, under compatible ids I get:HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&CTLR_VEN_8086&CTLR_DEV_293E&VEN_11D4&DEV_194A&REV_1004

Hi Paul, I keep trying to post a reply with my Hardware Ids but once I submit its keeps saying it was removed as spam.  Should I message you with the IDs?

HP Recommended

Very interesting.

I imagine if you try to message me, that would happen as well.

Can you post a screenshot of the ID's.

I wish you could have copy and pasted the ID's from the device manager so I could do a search without having to re-type everything, but if that is the only recourse, so be it.

Sorry about that Paul, I used the option to message the moderator and explained what was happening but I haven't heard back.  Here's what I got from device manager:

OK, thanks.

Let me see what I can find, if anything.
