Audio from both headphones and speakers

HP Pavilion TouchSmart 15-b181
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am having an issue with my laptop where the sound is coming from both my laptop speakers and my headphones. Before when I would plugin my headphones the sound would stop coming from the speakers and only come from the headphones. But after upgrading to Windows 10, this no longer happened. I have tried all the solutions I have found online. I installed the latest audio driver for my specific machine from the HP website (IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver 6.10.6425.0), I have tried uninstalling and reinstlling this driver, I have tried using the generic windows audio driver and now I have even downgraded to Windows 8.1 (clean install) but nothing has worked. In the playback device list there are two options, "Speakers/HP" which seems to cover both my laptop speakers and headphones, and a second device "Communication Headphones"  which is enabled but when I test it no sound comes from my headphones. I seen a solution online using the IDT Audio Control Panel however the control panel does not seem to come with the IDT CODEC I mentioned above.

Any help would be much appreciated as I have been trying to resolve this for the last week to no avail.

Thanks,

TheOriginalDrNo

Audio from both headphones and speakers

Hi @The_Fossette

Thank you for the reply, unfortunately when I attempt to do that the Headset Mic option is grayed out and says currently unavailable, as a result I cannot set it as the default device.

It is like the headset is not detected however the sound plays through it anyway. I have tried several pairs of headsets and they all behave the same.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

Yeah I already uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver for my machine from the HP website (IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver 6.10.6425) and that did not resolve my issue either.

Thanks
